Today on Museum Quick Bites we’re kicking off the month of April with a stroll along Gustave Caillebotte’s, Paris Street; Rainy Day (Rue de Paris, Temps de Pluie; 1877). This snapshot of late 19th century Paris, captures a busy intersection in the newly modernized City of Light. Considered radical at the time for its seemingly asymmetrical arrangement and cropped figures, Caillebotte’s painting is filled with delightful details.
Today on Museum Bites we’re climbing the stairway to heaven, Italian style, with a floor-to-rafters tour of the Duomo di Siena. More than a thousand years of art and history are contained within the walls of this imposing cathedral. We’ll sample a small slice, but first a little history…

Sleek and shiny art deco influenced fashion, entertainment, architecture, and even manufacturing during the 1920s and 1930s. At the dawn of the machine age, art deco transformed our everyday gizmos and gadgets into functional art. Join me for a brief look at some of these delightful designs.
Shuffling with the crowds through the imposing Meridian Gate (Wu Men), I entered a world of lions and dragons and urns…oh my!
Together we jostled through the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds and step by grueling step scrabbled up and down the steep inclines. Eventually, the mountain breeze began to cool, the crowds began to thin, and the view was nothing short of majestic.
