Daylight is waning here at Museum Quick Bites so today we’re embracing the darkness and taking a closer look at Raffaelle Monti’s, Night (1862). On display at the Detroit Institute of Arts, this lovely sculpture features a veiled, windswept woman floating above a sleeping baby.

Washed Up

Giovanni Della Casa, the Italian Miss Manners of the Renaissance and all around scold, warns in his book, Galateo (1558) that a man must achieve a delicate balance when tending to his personal scent. He should not reek like a filthy beggar in the street, nor smell like he’s been bombed with an eye-watering amount of perfume.

Crystal Clear

After several minutes in the Crystal Dome, I developed a serious case of kaleidoscope eyes. I and my fellow tourists scrambled onward searching for tangerine trees and marmalade skies only to stumble upon the offbeat, Mechanical Theatre.
