A Festive Leg to Stand On: Reboot

Happy Friday! Today on Museum Bites we’re touring the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. I stumbled across a lovely leg inside the Gallery of Greece, and it immediately brought to mind the fragile (fra-gee-lee!) leg lamp of A Christmas Story (1983) fame.

About Face

Helen of Troy’s launched a thousand ships and 007’s masked his tricks. Elphaba’s was green and Mr. T’s was often mean. Today on Museum Bites we’re settling in for some face time.

Game On

From Queen Nefertiti to marauding Vikings, ancient gamers took perilous journeys through the afterlife, besieged and vanquished their enemies, and made humble offerings to their gaming gods.

Qin’s Way

Qin commissioned the construction of a subterranean tomb packed with riches and a terracotta army so vast it would make an Egyptian pharaoh blush.

A Festive Leg to Stand On

[This ancient leg] was crafted from a mold, so you can bet there was more than one of these sandal wearing limbs walking around. Who knows, maybe it was the official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle of its time.

Beware the B. Rex

It feasts on the flesh (and bones!) of fish, frogs, turtles, snakes, baby crocodiles and even other birds, by snatching and crushing them with its powerful beak.

Jade Fever

It’s unclear if the jade smoothies were responsible for his longevity, he did live to the ripe old age of 69. However, before you rev up the blender, keep in mind, Emperor Wu was essentially drinking gravel.
